Dealing with Self-Esteem
November 16, 2009Kristen 21 Comments »I have struggled with self-esteem issues for most of my life. I was always that girl who was looking over her shoulder in fear that someone was looking at her with critizing eyes. With this fear came the belief that someone didn’t like my hair, or they didn’t like my clothes, or they just didn’t like me. I would think thoughts such as I wasn’t pretty, or I was a dumb, or I was worthless. These thoughts haunted me for years until I chose to believe God… I chose to believe His word.
Life is all about choices. We can choose to love, we can choose to trust, we can choose to believe. We can choose to either believe the lie of the devil or we can choose to believe God’s word. For me, I choose God’s word. God’s word tells us that we are His children, He loves us and He created us. His word states, “He created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God he created him (Genesis 1:27).” God created us in His image. Did you get that? He created us like Him. We have His genes and His fingerprints are in us. His words tells us, “One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD, all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple (Psalm 27:4).”
So friends, if God is beauty, and God created us in His image, what does that make you? Beautiful. You must be beautifully and wonderfully made because God made you! He knit you together in your mother’s womb. You are beauty, everything about you is beautiful and you shouldn’t let the devil tell you otherwise.
When the devil comes knocking on your door and tries to tell you that you are worthless, simply state, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made; God’s work is marvelous (Psalm 139:14).” You are marvelous! Watch the video below, it states it all!
Scripture of the day: I have written your name in the palm of my hand. You are always in my thoughts! (Isaiah 49:16)
I challenge you to memorize this verse today. Speak these words and you will begin to know them as truth. I hope that these words are healing to you. Feel free to share your testimonies with us!

Just beautiful! Thanks for that verse. What wonderful truth can be found in God’s Word!
I too, struggled with the same things growing up! I have grown a lot, but still have so much more to learn.

Thanks for visiting! Oh yes, I too still have a lot of learning to do! I have learned that life is a journey, not a destination. God is always teaching me new things through my journeys. Thanks and God bless

Always remember that God loves each of us…whether we are Red, Yellow, Black, or White, male or female, God loves each of us the same. He loves us more than we can understand.

Kristen,
I enjoyed your post. It lets me know that I am not alone. I suffered a great deal from low self esteem in my teens. That is the #1 reason why I put the website http://www.selfesteem-building.com together. It’s because if I can help one person suffer a little less it would make my personal struggles seem worth wild.
Keep your head up girl,
Michelle

When I was younger I also suffered from low self-esteem. As I got older I came to realize that I only needed to please my God and respect myself as women.

God’s work is marvelous. I agree with you when you said that. If you don’t believe me, take a trip to the mountains or the country or the ocean or think about how our bodies work. No one, but God alone can design such things.

Absolutely beautiful way of putting it. I once heard that it is healthy to look in the mirror every morning and say, “My, aren’t you handsome,” and thank God for it every day. I know this is almost impossible for me, but after your posts, I’ll give it a try!!!
Kristen, I also want to thank you for visiting my site a couple days ago… (Blog Catalog Widget) Add me as a friend on facebook, it’s been a pleasure reading your posts!

Hi Kristen, I found your site through the Christian Blog Group.
I hear you about these struggles; they are ones I’ve faced so often! Thank you for sharing your heart and reminding us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made!
He made us, and He called us according to His purpose. To Him, be the Glory! Our only worth is found because we are in Him for we were “disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious” (1 Peter 2:4) What wonder to His children that He chose us!
