Overcoming Fear

This past weekend my family and I took a vacation to the Smoky Mountains. We had the trip all planned out and I knew I would have to work hard to overcome fear. We had a day trip planned for Ober, Gatlinburg. If you’ve ever been there, you know you must first ride an aerial tramway that lasts 8 1/2 minutes high above the ground. This is unlike any other transportation I’ve ever experienced and for someone that is afraid of heights, the thought of this ride is debilitating! However, I knew God’s word teaches me that with Him, all things are possible. Therefore, overcoming my fear was possible too!
Before we left that morning I made sure to read scripture to help me overcome fear. I wanted very much to enjoy the ride and enjoy the beautiful view. As I was spending my quiet time with Jesus, I decided I would write out my scriptures to focus on during the ride. So, I got out my pen and paper and began writing. I wrote many scriptures that morning and placed them in my pocket for safe keeping!
As the doors closed in front of me, with people all around me (119 to be exact), I began reading my scripture. The tram soon lifted us off the ground and we dangled from the air. My flesh wanted desperately to give into the temptation of fear but I refused. I made a choice to focus everything I had on God and His word. I didn’t give my mind, or Satan, the opportunity to scare me. I quickly felt peace overcome me. I was at peace and was able to enjoy the view! God is an awesome God and He can always conquer our fears if we simply allow Him too.
When we give our fears to God we are able to truly live. There is so much life out there and we sometimes allow our fear to keep us frozen. We are unwilling to take chances and experience life. I challenge you to not live in fear! Joyce Meyers has stated, “Courage is fear that has said its prayers and decided to go forward anyways.” We should never allow fear to control our lives, just have a little courage!
Fear is simply a feeling. After we feel our fear, the next step should be to turn to God. Give him our fears and stand firm on His word. After all, His word tells us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. No matter your fear, rather it be an external fear or an internal fear, give it to God and you will find peace.
God bless,
Kristen

Beautiful post Kristen !
With His love, Jesus heal the frea ,the pains ,the past….the illnes the brokenhearted !
‘He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds’ Ps 147 v 3
‘He sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captive….’ Is 61 v 1b
Only Jesus can heal the brokenness of our hearts. Only Jesus can restore, refresh and renew the depths of our hearts, soul and spirit. So many of us are bound in the past, bound by fear, anxiety and past experiences. We find ourselves continually operating out of emotional deficits and out of the issues of our heart.
We don’t have to live with fear and hurt! WHY? Because Jesus came to heal the broken hearted and to set the captive free! He came to give us life and life everlasting!
No matter what you have been through, what life has thrown your way, nothing is too hard for our God and he is waiting wanting to mend your broken heart. Friend he loves you with an everlasting love and he desires to touch you and change you by his powerful love!
Thank you Jesus for the work you will do in my life!

The key? Simply-you chose. Just like we all have a choice to chose Christ. From that point on, we have the ability to chose how we spend our days, our lives. Through our choices, (if they’re right) He gives us power.

I agree with you, when we fear we should stop and trust God. I am not a huge fan of heights either. I am glad you trusted God or you would have missed out on all the scenery.
The Smokey Mountains are an awesome place to visit. I like it up there.

Kristen,
Everybody experiences fear, but no two persons handle fear in the same way. Your experience of overcoming your fear is because you let God in control. First, He allows us to feel fear, then, he awaits us to turn to Him.
But must we always turn to Him as our last recourse? Isn’t it better if we put our faith first in him and help him take control? This is a heart-warming blog. Thank you for sharing this.
