This past weekend my family and I took a vacation to the Smoky Mountains. We had the trip all planned out and I knew I would have to work hard to overcome fear. We had a day trip planned for Ober, Gatlinburg. If you’ve ever been there, you know you must first ride an aerial tramway that lasts 8 1/2 minutes high above the ground. This is unlike any other transportation I’ve ever experienced and for someone that is afraid of heights, the thought of this ride is debilitating! However, I knew God’s word teaches me that with Him, all things are possible. Therefore, overcoming my fear was possible too!

Before we left that morning I made sure to read scripture to help me overcome fear. I wanted very much to enjoy the ride and enjoy the beautiful view. As I was spending my quiet time with Jesus, I decided I would write out my scriptures to focus on during the ride. So, I got out my pen and paper and began writing. I wrote many scriptures that morning and placed them in my pocket for safe keeping!

As the doors closed in front of me, with people all around me (119 to be exact), I began reading my scripture. The tram soon lifted us off the ground and we dangled from the air. My flesh wanted desperately to give into the temptation of fear but I refused. I made a choice to focus everything I had on God and His word. I didn’t give my mind, or Satan, the opportunity to scare me. I quickly felt peace overcome me. I was at peace and was able to enjoy the view! God is an awesome God and He can always conquer our fears if we simply allow Him too.

When we give our fears to God we are able to truly live. There is so much life out there and we sometimes allow our fear to keep us frozen. We are unwilling to take chances and experience life. I challenge you to not live in fear! Joyce Meyers has stated, “Courage is fear that has said its prayers and decided to go forward anyways.” We should never allow fear to control our lives, just have a little courage!

Fear is simply a feeling. After we feel our fear, the next step should be to turn to God. Give him our fears and stand firm on His word. After all, His word tells us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. No matter your fear, rather it be an external fear or an internal fear, give it to God and you will find peace.

God bless,

I once allowed fear, worry and anxiety to control my life. I once lived with a fear of rejection, a fear of failure, and a fear of worthlessness. These fears ruled my life. I allowed satan to whisper in my ear daily that I was not good enough, that I was not worthy enough, and that I was not loved. Thank God, I made a choice and chose God’s word instead. His word tells me that I am good enough, I am accepted, and that He loves me. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son (John 3:16).” His word is freedom and in it I can live my life free from fear, worry, and anxiety.

I have found that Psalm 91 gives me hope. It gives me hope that I have freedom from any type of fear; whether it be fear of dangers or fear of rejection. It does not matter what type of fear it may be because this scripture tells me God is my protection. I was first introduced to Psalm 91 by Gloria Copeland. I listened closely as she preached on God’s protection. She began to read these words, “Though a thousand fall at my side, though ten thousand are dying around me, the evil will not touch me.” As she read those words, my heart leaped with joy inside of me! I had freedom; freedom from any type of fear the devil tries to throw my way. I began to open my bible and read the words of Psalm 91. It teaches me that I have no reason to fear because God is always with me. No matter what is happening around me, God will be there protecting me; evil will not touch me.

Psalm 91 is a powerful verse to be spoken over our lives. If you are suffering from fear and anxiety, I challenge you to pray this prayer daily. Print it out and leave it by your bed. When you wake up in the mornings or when you go to bed at night, pray this prayer over your life. It will make a difference. God will change you and help relieve your fears.

Prayer: Thank you Jesus that I live within the shadow of the Almighty, sheltered by the God who is above all gods. You are my refuge, my place of safety; You are my God, and I am trusting in You. For you rescue me from every trap, and protect me from the fatal plague. You will shield me with your wings! They will shelter me. Your faithful promises are my armor. Now I don’t need to be afraid of the dark anymore, nor fear the dangers of the day, nor dread the plagues of darkness, nor disasters in the morning. Though a thousand fall at my side, though ten thousand are dying around me, the evil will not touch me. I will see how the wicked are punished but I will not share it. Thank you Jesus, Amen. (Psalm 91, The Living Bible)
